Valerie Stockslager

I am dually certified as a Personal Trainer through Parrillo and ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association).  I also have a BS in Accounting from Wright State University.

I have been an active exerciser since I started college.  I met a guy my freshman year at Wright State that was in to weight lifting.  He showed me the ropes in the gym and I was hooked!  On the gym, not him.  I took several weight lifting and aerobics classes while at Wright State, but I was already well on my way to completing my Accounting degree and never thought about pursuing a career in Fitness.

Upon graduating from college, I got my first job at NCR.  I had always dreamed of working at NCR since my mom and my grandpa had both worked there and it was a big employer in the Dayton area.  I soon found out that the corporate world was not all it was cracked up to be and started thinking about other career paths I might be able to take.

After the birth of my first daughter, Brooke, I met Chastity when she started teaching a class at Goodrich where I worked at the time.  I attended one of Chastity’s encouragement circles and started asking questions about what being a Personal Trainer was all about.  I had taken several aerobics classes, but had never known there was such a thing as a Personal Trainer.  I got so interested in pursuing a career in Fitness that I got Parrillo certified while I was pregnant with my second daughter.  After my second daughter, Kayla, was born, I started talking to Chastity about working for her and she was in need of some more trainers.  I had decided that working full time and pursuing a career in Accounting was not what was best for my family.  I wanted to spend more time with my girls and a part time job was just what I needed.  Shortly after my daughter Kayla turned 1, I retired from being an Accountant and started working as a Personal Trainer at Fitness Layne.

I have been married to my wonderful husband Matt for 9 years and have 2 very energetic girls, Brooke and Kayla.  We currently live in Troy about 3 miles from Fitness Layne.  It makes for a very convenient drive to work.

I love being a trainer.  It gives me more time to spend with my family and I’m learning a healthier way of life that I hope can benefit everyone I know.  I hope by working here that I can help other woman realize that they need to take time for themselves and put their needs first when it comes to their health.  In order to help others you have to be healthy and that starts with staying fit!
